The Long Road to NordKapp

Meet the Rider

Darren Walley is a lifelong motorcyclist, advanced rider (IAM), training professional, Freemason, and passionate advocate for veterans and their families. Based in Plymouth, he has spent more than two decades developing people and building skills within the offshore and maritime industries while maintaining a deep commitment to service, community, and personal challenge.

As a member of the Widows Sons Pilgrims Chapter, Darren understands the importance of brotherhood, resilience, and supporting those who have faced adversity. The Long Road to Nordkapp combines these values with his love of adventure, taking him on an epic journey from the south-west coast of England to the northernmost point of mainland Europe.

More than a motorcycle expedition, the ride is an opportunity to raise awareness and funds for Veterans in Action, a charity dedicated to supporting veterans and their families. Through every mile of the journey, Darren hopes to inspire others to embrace challenge, support worthy causes, and prove that purpose can be found on even the longest roads.

Meet Veterans in Action

Veterans in Action (VIA) is a UK charity dedicated to helping veterans rebuild their confidence, well-being, and sense of purpose through long‑term projects, adventurous activities, and the charity’s unique ALIVE Programme.

Rooted in the belief that growth comes from shared experience, VIA focuses on Post‑Traumatic Growth, supporting veterans to turn negatives into positives by working together, learning new skills, and reconnecting with the camaraderie of service.

From centre‑based projects at their Hampshire ALIVE Centre to nationwide expeditions that reach veterans wherever they are, VIA provides a safe, supportive environment where individuals can progress at their own pace and rediscover their strengths.

In June 2027, a rider and backup team will set out from Plymouth on an extraordinary journey to Nordkapp, the northernmost point of mainland Europe. Covering thousands of miles across the United Kingdom, Denmark, Sweden, and Norway, the expedition will test endurance, resilience, and determination while raising funds and awareness for Veterans in Action. Travelling by motorcycle, carrying everything needed for life on the road, the team will camp beneath the Arctic sky, face whatever conditions nature presents, and share every stage of the adventure through daily updates, photographs, and video diaries. This is more than a motorcycle ride. It is a mission driven by purpose, friendship, and a commitment to supporting veterans and their families. Every mile travelled, every challenge overcome, and every donation received helps make a difference. Follow the journey, support the cause, and join us on the Long Road to Nordkapp.
